Globalization and the greenhouse effect are two issues now appearing in our daily discussions. Globalization will integrate our social and economic activities into a global system. Free trade areas, such as AFTA, NAFTA, ACFTA, and cross border education will benefit one country, but will disadvantage another. The greenhouse effect will be a serious threat to life in this universe. It is a factor causing climate change that will reduce food supply and increase the number of accidents and natural disasters. Penggunaan teks sastra sebagai teknik pembelajaran bahasa Inggris kian populer saja. Dalam hal ini teks sastra dapat digunakan untuk pembelajaran keterampilan berbahasa (listening, speaking, reading, writing) dan aspek-aspek bahasa (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, dll). Teks sastra menjadi komponen dasar dan sumber teks otentik dalam pembelajaran.
